Meg Tallmadge is home for the summer from Colorado State University, helping her father on the Diamond Rock Ranch, where she grew up. Her dad’s trying to make ends meet by opening the DR as a dude ranch and there’s a reporter coming in from LA to do a story. Meg’s not thrilled at the prospect of showing the reporter around, but that could change, especially when they meet.

She loves what she does, but she also loves that she’ll be able to spend another few months with fellow guide Melanie “Mel” Hammond. Dez’s feelings for Mel run deeper than friendship, but she’s hesitant to tell her, since she’s not sure Mel reciprocates. Then one night after a game of “Truth or Dare,” Mel reveals that she has a crush on someone in the river guide camp but she won’t say who. Should Dez take a chance anyway and let Mel know her feelings? Or should she keep quiet and hope her feelings change?

NEWISH! Dinner Party: Shay just had a bad dating experience, and she’s frustrated about finding anyone who’d be willing to meet her “not looking for anything too serious right now” requirement. Thinking that it’s probably best that she just continue with her “single gal” vibe, she focuses instead on her neighbor’s impending dinner party. That’s the ticket, Shay thinks.
